Treasure hunts, golf cart tours, skip-the-line Notre-Dame, immersive cheese... 9 tested activities to survive Paris with kids.
Paris with kids. Just the phrase is enough to raise your blood pressure. You can already picture yourself negotiating in front of the Louvre with a child who wants a croissant, not the Mona Lisa. Dragging a stroller across the cobblestones of Le Marais. Explaining for the fourth time why we can't go to the very top of the Eiffel Tower "right now this second".
Good news: we tested 9 activities specifically designed for families, and some of them literally turned sulky children into overexcited little explorers. Bad news: you'll have to come back because they'll be begging for more. Here's the honest guide, tested by real parents, to enjoy Paris without losing your mind.
The tried-and-true hits that work every time
These activities are your safety net. The ones you book when you don't want to take any risks, because you know they'll delight the 5-year-old just as much as the 14-year-old who insists "everything is boring".
Notre-Dame in a small group: the cathedral without the chaos. Taking kids to see Notre-Dame is a brilliant idea. Queuing for 3 hours with them, not so much. This small-group tour (max 19 people) lets you skip the entire line with priority access. The guide is passionate and knows how to hold children's attention with stories about the gargoyles, the 2019 fire and the reconstruction. Watching the cathedral rise from the ashes is genuinely moving, even teenagers look up from their phones. €49 per person, 1.5 hours, Île de la Cité. Meeting point at 22 Promenade Maurice Carême in the 4th.

Notre-Dame: Small Group Tour Skip-the-Line
Skip the 3-hour queue at Notre-Dame with priority group access. A passionate guide shares the secrets of the reborn cathedral.
The Paris Grand Tour in 5 hours: 40 landmarks, zero boredom. If you want your kids to see the best of Paris in a single day, this tour is unbeatable. The concept: 5 hours of walking and metro-riding with a local guide who knows the stories that make kids laugh (spoiler: there are plenty about Napoleon). From Saint-Germain-des-Prés to the Eiffel Tower via Notre-Dame, the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe, with a mandatory crêpe stop in the middle. Kids love the varied rhythm: walk, take the metro, stop, go again. €60 per person, meeting point at 147 Boulevard Saint-Germain in the 6th. It's a time investment, but you literally tick off all of Paris in one go.

Express Louvre: the Mona Lisa in 30 minutes flat. Let's be honest: the Louvre with kids is either magical or nightmarish. The difference? Time. This express tour gets you in without queuing and plants you in front of the Mona Lisa within minutes. The guide shares Leonardo da Vinci's secrets, you swing by the Venus de Milo, and in 30 minutes you're done. The kids are still fresh, not drained by 3 hours of endless corridors. And you keep free access to the museum afterwards, so if the older one wants to keep exploring, they can. €147 per person isn't cheap, but it's the price of peace of mind with kids. At 162 Rue de Rivoli in the 1st.

The outings kids beg to repeat
Now for the activities that blow kids' minds. The ones after which you'll hear "can we go again?" for the entire ride home.
Treasure hunt on the Île de la Cité and Saint-Louis. This is our absolute favourite for families. The concept: armed with a map and a riddle booklet, you follow the trail of King Saint-Louis across Paris's two most legendary islands. The kids are fully invested: deciphering clues, hunting for hidden symbols on building facades, solving historical puzzles. Meanwhile, you're strolling through Paris's most beautiful lanes with views of Notre-Dame. Everyone's happy. €30 per person, 1.5 hours, meeting point at 2 Boulevard Henri IV in the 4th. The guide is excellent and adjusts the difficulty to children's ages. 5/5 with 14 reviews, that's no accident.

The story: a mysterious message found by the Seine sends you on the trail of a lovesick ghost who hid a treasure. 2.5 hours of investigation between Notre-Dame and the riverbanks, with trickier puzzles and a game master who plays the part to perfection. It's cheaper too: €15 per person. Meeting point at 9 Boulevard Henri IV. Great for families with older kids, the little ones can tag along with a parent while the teens lead the investigation.

A golf cart ride through Paris. Kids love it, parents rest their feet, everybody wins. Your driver-guide takes you around central Paris for 2 hours, stopping at the best photo spots. The route is flexible, if your son wants the Champs-Élysées and your daughter prefers Le Marais, the guide adapts. The golf cart squeezes into lanes where tour buses can't go, and the live commentary keeps everyone engaged. €160 for the vehicle (not per person), which is reasonable for a family. Warning
The savvy parent's Paris checklist
After testing all these activities, here are our survival tips:
- Book 3-5 days ahead. The treasure hunts and Quiz Room sell out on weekends. Weekdays are easier and groups are smaller.
- Start early, finish early. The best family activities happen in the morning when kids are fresh. For afternoons, go with shorter options (Cheese Experience, express Louvre) or free-range strolling.
- Pack snacks and water. Paris is gorgeous but bakeries aren't always around the corner when you need one. A bag with snacks is non-negotiable.
- Alternate indoors and outdoors. Treasure hunt in the open air in the morning, Cheese Experience indoors in the afternoon. Your kids never get bored and you handle the weather.
- The perfect full-day combo: treasure hunt in the morning (€30) + lunch break + Cheese Experience in the afternoon (€17) = a memorable day for €47 per person. For more foodie ideas, check out our Paris food tour guide.
